When you experience post-transplant complications, learning about your treatment options can help you be more in control of the situation. The more you know, the better prepared you will be to ask questions, offer suggestions and make informed decisions.
Not all health problems you might experience will be related to your previous treatment, but if they are, you will want to work with doctors who understand the causes and treatments of post-transplant complications.
Your primary care physician may not be familiar with all possible post-transplant complications. Encourage him or her to communicate with your transplant doctor.
It can also be helpful to communicate with other survivors to share your experiences and what you have learned.
