The amount of experience a transplant center has may be a factor when you are choosing a transplant center. You can find out what kind of experience National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) transplant centers in the United States have in our online transplant center listings.
Ages of patients treated
Look in each U.S. transplant center listing under Program Type to learn if a center transplants only adults, only pediatric patients or both.Number of transplants
Look under Transplant Experience for more detailed information about a specific transplant center's experience — including cord blood transplant experience.Transplant Experience shows the year the transplant center began doing allogeneic transplants, as well as the month and year the center became an NMDP transplant center. (An allogeneic transplant is a bone marrow or cord blood transplant using cells from a relative or an unrelated donor.)
Transplants performed
Look under Transplants Performed to see the total number of different types of transplants the center has performed:- Allogeneic bone marrow, peripheral blood (PBSC) and cord blood transplants
- Autologous transplants (which use the patient's own cells)
- Total number of transplants within the most recent one-year period on record (June 2007 - May 2008)
