Melodie Magouirk highlighted Steve and Diane Raboin’s acceptance of the
Innovation Award from Be The Match. The local California couple’s late son,
Tanner, lost his struggle with a rare autoimmune deficiency in April 2011, but
his parents have kept his memory alive through their incredible effort to
increase the number of marrow donors on the Be The Match Registry. As dedicated
LA Kings hockey fans, Steve and Tanner used to attend games together. When
Tanner became too sick to attend games, his father created the Tannerhead, an
image of Tanner that he still brings to LA Kings games to start the
conversation about Be The Match and his family’s story. In the article, Steve
emphasized that the need for financial contributions to Be The Match is also
great, and encouraged readers to get involved.
