Reporter Donald McNeil interviewed Dr. Willis Navarro, medical director for the National Marrow Donor Program, for an article about how an umbilical cord blood transplant recipient, Seun Adebiyi, is paying it forward. Adebiyi helped start Nigeria’s national bone marrow registry in February, the first in Africa outside South Africa, and is now raising money to start a cord blood bank there.
