Cord blood banks save more lives

Maitland/Winter Pak Observer by Brittni Johnson

The Matiland/Winter Park Observer featured a story about local resident Majana Colo, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic blood disorder called FHLH. She was able to beat the disease thanks to an umbilical cord blood transplant in 2008.

The author also interviewed Dr. Edward Guindi, CEO of CORD:USE Public Cord Blood Bank in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Guindi explained that the increase in cord blood donations – like the one that saved Majana’s life – has more than doubled the number of minority transplants facilitated by the  National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).
