Writer Kim Kyle Morgan highlighted African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month in a July article about a local marrow donor. Jeffery McGowen, member of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, donated marrow to a 16-year-old boy two years ago. Jeffery traveled to Washington D.C. to share his story with lawmakers, hoping to inspire the continued support of Be The Match and its life-saving work. A reader submitted a letter to the editor following this article, stating that Jeffery’s story inspired her to join the Be The Match Registry.
