Reporter JoNel Aleccia interviewed Mary Halet, Director, Recruitment, for an article on the benefits of public cord blood donation. The article highlights new mother Amalia Kessler’s decision to donate her baby’s cord blood to the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University, which recently began accepting donations.

The article noted that the National Marrow Donor Program helped supply nearly 1,200 transplants from cord blood units in 2011, bringing the total to about 6,000 cord blood transplants since the cord program began in 2000.
