Attention, expectant mothers: local doctors, nurses want your baby's umbilical cord blood

OC Weekly: Navelgazing Blog by Yasmin Nouh

Reporter Yasmin Nouh of the OC Weekly wrote an article about Jenny Grgas, a mother who donated her child’s cord blood after learning that it has the potential to cure many diseases. As a labor and delivery nurse, Grgas started encouraging other mothers to donate cord blood after she learned there was a lack of awareness about the process.

The reporter also interviewed Dr. Karen Taylor, medical director of education and collections at StemCyte, Inc., a public cord blood bank within the National Marrow Donor Program’s cord blood network. She explained that cord blood donations are increasing, but there is still a great need for parents to publicly donate cord blood.
