NationalOncology Show hosts Dr. Abe Chachoua and Dr. Silvia Formenti interviewed Nadya Dutchin, national account executive for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and Be The Match, and 19-year-old Miah Winterfeldt, who was identified as the NMDP’s 50,000th donor. Nadya discussed the need for donors and the NMDP’s 25th anniversary, and Miah discussed her story of joining the Be The Match Registry, inspired by her uncle who died from lymphoma.
The NMDP facilitated its first transplant between an unrelated patient and donor 25 years ago, and transplant therapies continue to gain momentum. In fact, half of the 50,000 transplant occurred in the last five years, and the NMDP expects to double the number of transplants it facilitates annually to more than 10,000.
