The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) is looking for individuals with the talent and experience to help shape the direction of NMDP's future
The NMDP is seeking nominations for Affiliated and Independent Director positions on the board of directors.
Affiliated Directors have either a contractual relationship with the NMDP or are employed by an entity with a contractual relationship with the NMDP. Affiliated Directors include members from a Transplant Center, Donor Center, Apheresis/Collection Center, Cord Blood Bank, and Donor Recruitment Organization.
Independent Directors are individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field and/or have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the purposes for which the NMDP was formed. Independent Directors include members of the general public; a transplant recipient or a family member; and a donor of bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells or cord blood.
Candidates should be aware of the time commitments required of an NMDP board member. Each term lasts two years with the possibility of reappointment for two additional terms. A board member could expect to serve up to 10 days per year in addition to travel and the time it takes to review board and committee information in preparation for meetings and conference calls. Candidates must be passionate about the NMDP's goals, values and mission.
Ideal candidates should have some:
- Board or committee experience
- High-level decision making experience
- Knowledge or expertise in health insurance issues
The Guidelines for Board Membership briefly describes the duties of an NMDP board member.
The committee plans to meet with candidates in mid-June for the final selection process. Successful candidates will be appointed for a two-year term beginning at the start of Fiscal Year 2014 on October 1, 2013.
Board members, members of the NMDP council of donor, transplant, Apheresis/collection centers and recruitment groups, and NMDP staff members are eligible to nominate a candidate for board appointment. Self nominations from qualified individuals will also be considered.
If you or someone you know is interested please send an electronic copy of your letter of recommendation; a letter of intent to serve from the candidate, along with their Curriculum Vitae/resume to jmatkait@nmdp.org. Or, send the documents by mail to:
