CamioloJohn Camiolo is the owner of John James Benefits Group in Point Lookout, N.Y. Camiolo was inspired in 1996 to join the National Marrow Donor Program(NMDP) Registry by baseball Hall-of-Famer Rod Carew whose daughter Michelle had a form of leukemia and was in need of bone marrow transplant. He then developed a comprehensive recruitment plan for his company, The Equitable Life Assurance Society, and increased awareness about marrow and blood cell donation in his company and other organizations. Since Camiolo began working with The Marrow Foundation, he has raised significant support to help add volunteers to the NMDP Registry under the auspices of the Foundation's AXA (formerly Equitable) Marrow Donor Program. He was awarded the NMDP's Allison Atlas Award in recognition of his commitment to recruitment and retention of marrow and blood cell donors on the Registry. Camiolo has also served as co-chair of the Party for Life that has raised more than $500,000 for The Marrow Foundation's Terry Farrell Marrow Program. Camiolo lives with his wife, Caryn, and three children in East Northpoint, N.Y.Harvey F. Ernest Jr.Harvey F. Ernest Jr. is the President of RIVERGROUP, a business development consulting firm located in Falls Church, Va. Previously, Ernest was the director of 3M Federal Systems Department, headquartered in Washington, D.C. In his 27 year career with 3M, he worked in management capacities with several 3M divisions. Ernest is active in several community organizations, serving as vice chair, Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area. He also serves on the board of directors of National Industries for the Blind and on the board of trustees of the Federal City Council. In 1986, he was awarded the U.S. State Department Tribute of Appreciation for creating executive exchanges between government and industry. In 1989, he was named delegation spokesman for the Emerging Leaders Exchange Program held in Moscow, Leningrad and Riga. He was awarded 3M’s prestigious Marketing Excellence Award that year as well. Ernest lives with his wife, Pamela, and their son, Ryan, in Falls Church, Va.Bart S. Fisher, Esquire, Ph.D.Bart S. Fisher is currently Of Counsel at Dorsey Whitney of Washington, D.C. Previously, he was a consultant with Plexus Consulting Group of Washington, D.C. Before that, Fisher was chairman-CEO of CBQ-Networkland in Arlington, Va., and was Of Counsel at Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur. He is also a founder and partner of Capital House LLC in Washington, D.C., a merchant bank focused on international business transactions. He is a professorial lecturer at the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of The Johns Hopkins University, and he is president of Capital Baseball, Inc. In addition, Fisher serves as president of the Aplastic Anemia Foundation of America.Karin Gifuni Zumwalt(Biography will be forthcoming.)J. Cunyon Gordon, Esquire, Vice ChairJ. Cunyon Gordon is currently practicing law as an attorney and counselor with Eimer Stahl in Chicago. Gordon is also a former partner in the law firm of Jenner & Block, where she specialized in contract, partnership and construction issues. Many of her cases involved discrimination against people with AIDS under local, state and federal law. She is also currently pursuing a career in writing and publishing while teaching law during the summer at various universities around the United States. Gordon received her Juris Doctor from the Yale University School of Law and has served on the board of the NMDP.William J. HendersonWilliam J. Henderson currently serves on the board of directors of Acxiom Corporation, a customer data integration and customer recognition infrastructure company. Previously, Henderson served as the 71st Postmaster General of the United States and as the fifth career employee to lead the world's largest postal system from 1998-2001. From 1994 until his appointment as Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, Henderson served as Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for nationwide postal operations, daily delivery of more than 650 million pieces of mail to more than 130 million addresses. In 1992, Henderson moved to postal headquarters as vice president of employee relations and, ten months later, he became chief marketing officer and senior vice president. Besides service in Washington, D.C., he has served in postal management positions in Chicago, Greensboro, Memphis, Stockton, Calif., and other locations. In 2001, Henderson received the Postal Board of Governors' highest honor, the Benjamin Franklin Award. In 1997, he received the Postal Service's prestigious John Wanamaker Award, and in 1998, he received American University's Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership, presented to federal career executives who best epitomize superior leadership. Henderson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and served in the U.S. Army. He lives with his wife, Deborah Bowker, in Great Falls, Va.J.R. Hendrick IIIJ.R. Hendrick III is the founder of Hendrick Automotive Group, one of the world's largest automotive dealership operations with franchises across the United States and annual revenues of $2.2 billion. Hendrick is also the chairman and founder of Hendrick Motorsports, which fields champion racing teams in NASCAR. Hendrick is a founding member of the J.D. Powers SuperDealer Roundtable and was one of the first five dealers to be selected for the national planning committee for GM's Saturn Division. He currently resides in Charlotte, N.C. with his wife, Linda.Aimée MerszeiAimée Merszei is a professional volunteer and philanthropist. Most recently, she was co-chair of the board of trustees of the National Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF). She also served as co-chair, Executive Committee; chair, Development Committee; chair, Nominating Committee. She has received numerous honors, including the "Distinguished Women's Award" from Northwood University and the "The Helen and Richard DeVos Distinguished Lecturer in Pediatric Oncology" from The DeVos Children's Hospital, Grand Rapids, Mich. In addition to her work in the field of childhood cancer, Merszei has also served as a member of the board of trustees of Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Mass. Previously, Merszei has also been a writer/editor of Fortune magazine (Time Inc.) as well as assistant to senior research analysts of Smith Barney & Co. Inc., New York. Merszei holds a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Mount Holyoke College and currently resides with her husband, Zoltan, and son in Greenwich, Conn.Zoltan MerszeiZoltan Merszei was chairman of the Dow Chemical Company for thirty years and subsequently served as chairman and CEO of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. He serves on many boards and has been honored with numerous awards including decoration as a Commander of the Order of Oranje Nassau by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands.John A. OsthJohn A. Osth is president of Quantum Cor. Previously, Osth was president of WB Technologies and president of SCT Laboratories Inc. before that. He also held various positions within Baxter International Inc., all related to product development. He was appointed vice president, Business Development, of Baxter's Blood Substitutes Business Unit and was promoted to vice president and general manager of Baxter's Research & Development Facility in Nivelles, Belgium. He was then asked to lead a new spin-off venture called Nexell Therapeutics Inc. before heading SCT Laboratories.Hugh PaneroHugh Panero has served as president, chief executive officer and as a board member of XM Satellite Radio since June 1998. XM's programming lineup features 100 coast-to-coast digital channels and was named "Product of the Year" by Fortune, and "Invention of the Year" by Time. Before his career at XM, Panero, a former journalist, had more than 16 years of experience building and managing entertainment distribution services. From 1993 until joining XM in 1998, he served as president and CEO of Request Television, a pay-per-view network owned by TCI's Liberty Media and Twentieth Century Fox. Previously, he spent 10 years at Time Warner Cable of New York City, where he helped build and grow the world's largest cable system. Panero is a member of the Consumer Electronics Association and honorary chair of Cable Positive, the cable industry's non-profit AIDS awareness organization. He serves on Washington Mayor Anthony Williams's Business Roundtable and has been awarded the D.C. Chamber of Commerce's Business Leader of the Year Award. Panero received his Bachelor of Arts in government and sociology from Clark University and has a Master's in Business Administration from Baruch College. He is married to Mary Beth Durkin and has two children.Harry J. Pearce, Esquire, ChairmanHarry J. Pearce is Of Counsel with Bowman and Brooke LLP in Detroit and was most recently chairman of Hughes Electronics Corporation. Previously, he was elected a director of the General Motors Corporation board of directors and became vice chairman of the corporation on January 1, 1996. He held numerous positions, including general counsel and executive vice president, within GM. He had responsibility for Corporate Relations and Diversity, Economics, the Enterprise Activities Group, Environment and Energy, Global Human Resources and the GM University, Government Relations, Information Systems & Services, Office of the Secretary, Corporate Strategy and Knowledge Development, Allison Transmission Division, Electro-Motive Division, and Hughes Electronics Corporation. He was also responsible for the overall relationship between General Motors and its key information-technology supplier, Electronic Data Systems Corporation (EDS), which was split off from GM in June 1996. Previously, Pearce served as a Staff Judge Advocate in the Air Force and was certified as a military judge. He was a municipal judge in Bismarck, N.D., and also served as United States Commissioner and U.S. Magistrate. Pearce is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a fellow in the International Society of Barristers. He is chairman of the Product Liability Advisory Council Foundation and a founding member of the Minority Counsel Demonstration Program of the American Bar Association's Commission on Opportunities for Minorities in the Profession. He serves on numerous corporate and not-for-profit boards.David SchubertDavid Schubert is chief business officer of Accelerator Corporation, a venture capital-backed biotechnology investment vehicle located in Seattle, Wash. Prior to joining Accelerator in 2005, Schubert was the founder and president of CellExSys Inc., a biotechnology company focused on the creation of personalized medicines for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. In 1997, Schubert joined Targeted Genetics Corporation as director, Communications and Strategic Relations, and was promoted to senior director in 1999. He oversaw all investor relations and corporate communications activities and participated in a variety of business development initiatives. In April 2000, he was appointed to the position of senior director, strategic initiatives, a position in which he focused on spinning out the company's assets in the cellular therapy area and the subsequent creation of CellExSys Inc. in November 2000. Previously, Schubert was a biotechnology research associate at Vector Securities International (now Prudential Vector Healthcare Group, a division of Prudential Securities). From 1994 to 1996, he was the senior market manager for the Immunotherapy Division of Baxter Healthcare Corporation, where he developed and implemented strategic marketing programs for a multi-million dollar portfolio of products for utilization in the bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies markets. From 1993 to 1994, he was the assistant to the president of Baxter International's Biotech Europe Group in Munich, Germany. Schubert holds a Master's of Business Administration with concentrations in marketing and management from The Pennsylvania State University, a Master's of Science in biology with a concentration in immunology from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Science in biology and Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. Schubert is a member of the board of directors of Accentia BioPharmaceuticals Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on the treatment of cancer and respiratory diseases.Susan Ungaro, SecretarySusan Ungaro is the editor-in-chief of Family Circle. Ungaro has been with Family Circle since 1976, when she began working as an editorial assistant. In 1994, she became editor-in-chief of the magazine, which has a readership of 24 million. Ungaro has been honored with numerous journalism awards and was also a participant in President Clinton's Women's Roundtables. In addition to being a member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and the Women's Media Group, Ungaro serves on the boards of the Brazelton Foundation and H.E.L.P. (Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged).Darren S. WeinerDarren S. Weiner is the President of Weiner International Management Inc., a global sports and entertainment management firm based in Miami, FL. He has been a successful and well-respected agent for nearly two decades, after becoming the youngest NBA-certified player agent while only a junior in college. Weiner has represented Olympic medalists, Hall-of-Fame members, and other prominent professional athletes and coaches in basketball, baseball, boxing, auto racing and bodybuilding, in more than 30 countries. In addition, Weiner founded Antigen Realty LLC, and the Antigen Realty Network, the preeminent dedicated provider of real estate services to professional athletes, sports executives, and celebrities worldwide. He also partnered with client and boxing legend Roy Jones, Jr. to form Positive Impact, a company to train elite professional and amateur athletes. Weiner was diagnosed with leukemia in 1999 and underwent a successful unrelated donor bone marrow transplant in 2000, facilitated by the NMDP. Drawing on his personal experience, Weiner then created the Stars vs. Cancer recruitment and education program at The Marrow Foundation, which has included running blood and marrow donor recruitment drives with numerous professional sports teams across North America.Admiral E.R. Zumwalt Jr., (Deceased), Founding ChairmanAdmiral E.R. Zumwalt Jr. was Chief of Naval Operations and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1970 to 1974. He served as president of Admiral Zumwalt & Consultants Inc., a consulting firm in the fields of management, energy, health care, foreign and defense policy, and strategic planning. He was also a member of the president's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in January 1998 for his contributions to the country and his longtime leadership of the National Marrow Donor Program and The Marrow Foundation. He chaired the board of directors of the Navy Memorial Foundation, and he was a director of numerous corporate and pro bono organizations. He first became interested in marrow transplantation when his older son was diagnosed with leukemia and underwent a related donor transplant. Admiral Zumwalt was also chairman emeritus of the board of the NMDP. |
